For the longest time I’ve drawn figures lifting, holding and carrying each other. The practice approaches a compulsion that I suspect is rooted in two things: A love of physicality – the sort of physicality found in modern dance and rugby, where bodies entangle and an embrace is never a simple expression of intimacy- and an appetite for narrative, which the bringing together of two figures inevitably gives rise to.
