Amidst all the competition and striving, people inevitably fall and get hurt, while others help. This couple occurs in a number of my paintings. It’s unclear what has happened but there is something generous in the hold that the portly figure has on his slumped companion. Some bond exists that is not determined by their goals and some values that are not completely constrained by the demands of their ambitions or aspirations.
