mystery and suspense
oil and wax on paper, A2
when I was a student I made money by chalk drawing on pavements. One summer, over many weeks, I copied most of the Sistine ceiling on the pavement in Broadmead, Bristol. And I learned something while doing it which was this: Get the heads in early cos they caused the money to flow. And if the eyes were big and sparkly, all the better. It was a mistake to get everything else done and then finish up with the heads, which is how I began, cos the difference in takings was really huge.
Anyway, I was thinking about this today when I did this, because I rarely bother about heads and yet the image, which floated into my mind the other day, required some. So, I tried hard to remember what my wife and kids looked like. Quite hard.
